In March 2024, over 200 church leaders, property stewards, housing advocates, and visionaries gathered in Vancouver to explore bold new directions for church land and buildings. Building on the momentum of our inaugural Crieff Hills gathering, this second national event deepened the conversation around church redevelopment as a pathway to urban flourishing and justice.
The gathering opened with an evening lecture by Adrian Jacobs and Jason McKinney on reconciliation and redevelopment—offering both Indigenous and settler perspectives on healing relationships with land and community. The following day included panel discussions with city planners and developers, storytelling sessions, and small-group dialogue around critical pathways for transformation.
Held on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, the Vancouver event emphasized the importance of theological grounding, Indigenous-settler partnership, and bold imagination. Together, participants sketched visions for the future of faith properties—beyond decline and into possibility.
